Margaret Hogeboom

A graphic artist by trade, I was instantly drawn to designing and making relief tiles. The process as follows: I design and sculpt a master tile by hand. A plaster cast is then made, into which I press clay. Once out of the mold, I carefully trim and slowly dry the tiles. I then bisque fire the tiles, glaze and re-fire them to cone 5, making them durable enough to be part of a permanent installation or simply enjoyed as little works of art, wall-mounted with a nail.

The inspiration for my relief tiles and other ceramic pieces comes from nature, as I love to depict familiar critters and plants in clay.
